Welcome to the April edition of Loyaltee News

Dear Golfer,

March was not been the start to the golf season we were hoping for, with record levels of rainfall and several days of snow! However, it will soon be a distant memory as the forecasters have promised that lots of sunshine and warm temperatures will be heading our way soon.

Though the weather has been exceptionally poor (even by British standards!) we were treated to a thrilling golfing event on the other side of the pond, with the 82nd Masters. Patrick Reed was well-deserved of his new place in the Green Jacket brigade, just as we thought he might be wilting while McIlroy made his move. Tiger just about made it into the weekend, but showed signs of old with a superb final round.

To celebrate the first Major of the year we ran our own Masters Week golf promotions and activities. Despite the meteorological mayhem here in Blighty, we saw a great turnout with lots of you enjoying the deals while watching the tournament live in our clubhouse. I hear our delicious Bubba Burgers were an absolute hit!

With drier periods approaching, Ross Cook and his greenkeeping team will be swapping snorkels for shorts as they start an intensive programme of maintenance. To some extent we will be playing catch up – we’ve not been able to cut anywhere near as frequently as normal due to wet ground conditions, however the grass is now starting grow at a rapid pace. Normal service will resume and our courses will soon look stunning.

Ross has just completed one of our most important seasonal procedures, which included aeration and dressing of the 36 greens. This critical task happens twice a year and ensures the long-term health and quality of our putting surfaces. Read the latest Head Greenkeeper’s Blog to find out more about this and what’s up Ross’ sleeve for the next few weeks.

The courses will be receiving a facelift for the new season, with brand new tee markers, divot boxes, flags and hole cups. The driving range also has been refreshed with new and improved Premier Mats on all 15 bays – click here to read more.

Glendale Golf held its annual Leadership Conference in March, at the Hawth Theatre in Crawley. This event is attended by managers and supervisors from all our golf venues across the UK, giving us a great chance to share best practices and plans for the year ahead. This year we hosted our first annual awards ceremony and I’m delighted that Richmond Park Golf Course picked up two awards – Food & Beverage Team of the Year and Sales Team of the Year. On the subject of food, we are launching our new Nineteen Bar & Kitchen Menu on 16th April. There will be some exciting new additions, including a range of Hot Dogs. Look out, as the Street Dog, Chilli Dog and New Yorker Dog will soon be making an appearance in our clubhouse!

We have some great events, offers and activities lined up for April including the launch of the Ten Hole Club, Get Into Golf Beginner Lessons and the return of the Sunchaser. Don’t forget that our current Loyaltee 1 Month and 12 Month offer ends soon, so take advantage of up to one month’s free golf if you’re yet to join.

Loyaltee 12 Month membership includes access to a busy schedule of weekly golf competitions, ran in partnership with our two resident clubs – Richmond Park Golf Club and Putney Park Golf Club. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Richard Owen and the club officials for their tireless work, which has really helped transform our membership offering. I’m thrilled that the new midweek competitions have taken off so well, with so many new golfers now enjoying the regular Wednesday fixture.

April also sees the launch of our new Glendale Golf website. I have been involved in this project from start to finish and I’m really pleased with the result. The new site is much easier to navigate and will be full of news, offers and up to date information. Check it out here.

Thank you all so much for continuing to enjoy playing golf here in the wonderful surroundings of Richmond Park Golf Course. We hope you’re looking forward to teeing off the start of the golf season as much as we are!

See you on the fairways soon.

Jon Dummett
General Manager
