Head Greenkeepers Golf Course Update
What a summer we are having! As you would expect the very hot weather makes our job as greenkeepers very tough. Our main concern during periods of hot weather is the greens, we are watering heavily overnight but due to the extreme heat we are also
having to hand water the greens daily using a hose and wetting agents.
Wetting agents break down the service tension allowing the water to penetrate the greens and work its way into the roots. Finally last week the course saw some much needed rain which allowed us to fertilise which has dramatically improved the condition of the greens and help strengthen the plant.
We have also scarified twice to keep thatch levels down which helps stops the water sitting in this spongy layer allowing the water to penetrate the surface. Tining has also increased to every 14 days, these tiny holes break the surface tension helping the water get to deeper into the green and down to the roots of the plant.
We have lots of exciting projects planned over the next few months as we move into the autumn season. Don’t forget to book your next green fee online and see the improvements for yourself!
