Portsmouth September Newsletter
Welcome to our September newsletter where we will update you on what’s happening at Portsmouth Golf Course. We are now into Ryder Cup month which is set to be an epic battle over the Le Golf National Golf Course in France. Europe haven’t lost on European soil since 1993, will they keep this excellent record up??
After the recent rainfall and cooler temperatures we have now seen the golf course revitalise itself which lush looking greens and fairways. The greens are looking a lot healthier but still show small signs of stress left behind by the hot and dry summer period. To aid recovery we have applied a granular fertiliser which will help repair these areas of stress and strengthen the grass going into the cooler months. We also plan to verti cut the greens which will promote getting air into the soil profile and assist with a cleaner cut.
Like the greens our tee areas will shortly receive a granular feed to again assist with the summer stress and help prepare and strengthen for the forthcoming winter. All fairways will continue to be cut and striped along with the rough on a weekly basis. As temperatures start to drop we will see the growth rates reduce and in return less machine use.
Over the past month we have been planning our winter work projects which include some excellent improvements to certain areas of the golf course. The team and I are very much looking forward to getting stuck into these in preparation for the 2019 golf season. We look forward to communicating these over the coming months.
Enjoy the rest of the season!

We also have a sweepstake in the Golf Reception with a chance to win a dozen Titleist Pro V1 golf balls, all you need to do is pick the highest individual points scorer of this years Ryder Cup which will be in a lucky dip format.

Golf Club update
This month started with the Haskett Trophy which is an open event for Businesses and Member’s wishing to enter a pairs competition to promote their company, clients or their staff.
It was played in a 4 Ball Better Ball Medal format with an excellent field starting at 7am in near perfect weather conditions for golf.
Many started the morning with a hearty breakfast and a casual start, but with a prize table of over a £1,000, prizes for nearest the pin and in two on some holes, the fun day turned into concentration as pairs fought hard to produce a worthwhile score.
Early scores came in with a net 61 which looked to be a winning margin but a net 60 sent the 61’s to supporting places. The net 60 was then matched and back 9 back 6 had to be used to produce a winning pair.
Scores on the day:
Nearest the Pin in 2: Tom Scott, Derek Morton, James McLatchie.
Nearest the Pin: Gary Killick, Martin Farndale, Richard Burree, Jason Burridge, Zac Brinkley.
Haskett Trophy: Winners: Net 61 | Asa Diaper & Peter Le Lion.
Second: Net 61 | Mick Manning & Gary Millard.
Third: Net 60 | Ken Brazier & Dale Trump.
Fourth: Net 60 | Ian Curtis & Dave Hopkins.
