The greens have held up very well as we rapidly approach the colder winter months. All greens have received a granular feed and have also received a spray application to stop any unwanted disease such as fusarium forming which is very prominent this time of year. As the rate of grass growth slows this time of year we will continue to cut on a less frequent basis ensuring the greens remain healthy and avoid any unnecessary stress.
The teeing areas remain a huge focus for us over the coming months. All tee areas are now playing from mats which has given us the opportunity to fertilise, heavily dress and seed areas in need. In just two weeks it’s noticeable that the tees have benefited from the rest and are showing positive signs of recovery already. This will be an ongoing process making sure that the areas are in peak condition for next spring. The winter mats will be brushed on a daily basis and jet washed periodically.
Fairways / Rough
As with the greens the rate of grass growth slows significantly as temperatures start to drop. With this in mind we will continue to cut and define fairways on a less frequent basis. This time of year we heighten the blades slightly for a longer cut to help preserve fairways and assist with a better lie. We will continue to cut rough when required and also keep on top of leaf collection as an ongoing process.
Since our last report we have removed some diseased and damaged trees in various areas of the golf course. With the assistance of expert guidance many of these removals will enable younger healthier trees to prosper and flourish and also reduce the risk of falling trees and limbs. Another benefit will be increased sunlight to areas that have suffered in the past. With the closure of holes we will also focus on roping off areas to assist with traffic control and keeping golfers and trolleys away from the wetter areas.
Have a great Christmas and New Year.
Matt and the team
Our events this time of year are dominated by Christmas parties and lunches. It’s a busy time of year for us as we host numerous local community groups as well as larger companies for their festive get together. This year has been very busy for us in the Bar & Restaurant and it looks like 2019 will be no different.
Don’t forget if you have an occasion to celebrate in 2019 we are offering 50% off room hire for 2019 bookings if placed before January 31st. For more information on this offer please visit our webpage here or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Golf Club update
The Trophy Presentation Night brought together member’s, partners and friends to applaud this year’s champions followed by a hot buffet, disco and the odd drink or two!
Over seventy trophies were distributed to the winners, afterwards everyone relaxed and enjoyed the evening that extended late into the night.
The Turkey Trot vouchers will be presented this weekend at the Shirley Rees shotgun competition. If you’re unable to attend this Saturday then make sure you collect your meat voucher soon after as they must be redeemed by the end of the year.
As we looked back on this year’s golf, fixtures for next year are well underway with matches confirmed against other local clubs. We look forward to the NAPGC regional heats, Daily Mail Foursomes and County events in 2019. Another busy season just around the corner.
Golf’s new rule changes come into play in January, most are there to simplify the sometimes confusing and numerous list. Others are to speed up the pace of play.
New rule books are free to collect from the Golf Reception or, a quick search of the Web will sing up numerous sites that explain the changes in easy form.
Excellent bedtime reading!
Finally, seasonal greetings to you all and may 2019 be special.
Peter Badger – Club Secretary
See you on the fairways soon.
