Bid on a bucket of balls and help the Beverley Brook Volunteers’ Group
Calling all golfers… Almost 200 top quality golf balls have recently been recovered from Beverley Brook as part of a clean-up project run by volunteers. Here’s your chance to help those involved in this important work, and bag a bounty of balls to boot!
Those of you who play golf at Richmond Park will be very familiar with the importance of our unique and wonderful habitat. It’s London’s largest green space and home to an abundance of wildlife. Its beautiful setting has become one of the most visited places in the UK, providing peace and tranquillity for almost six million Londoners who come to Richmond Park to escape the daily grind.
With so many visitors, it has become a huge task to keep the park’s 2,500 acres free of litter, which has become a real concern for the Royal Parks management team. The park’s river, Beverley Brook, is an important part of the sensitive ecosystem and is particularly affected by the problem of litter left behind by the public. This is where the Friends of Richmond Park come in – a group of 200 volunteers dedicated to the conservation and protection of the park.
The Beverley Brook Volunteers’ Group (BBVG) was recently set up by several folk within the Friends of Richmond Park to help restore areas of the Brook. The idea is that the BBVG will keep the Brook clear of litter and take on any other tasks in relation to the Brook, including important conversation projects for the South East Rivers Trust.
In October this year, the BBVG donned waders and worked through sections of Beverley Brook that border the golf course. Most of the rubbish comprised plastic bags, bottles and all manner of other waste material including: a Nokia phone, lots of dog toys & poo bags, wheel hubs, shoes, golf clubs and chicken wire. Indeed almost anything you can think of.
Included in the haul was almost 200 golf balls, which have found their way into the Brook via the many golf course ditches and streams that feed into it. Many of these balls are in new condition and are from top brands such as Titleist and Srixon.
The BBVG are giving you a chance to claim the entire haul balls in return for a much-needed donation to the Friends of Richmond Park. Not only will you get next season’s supply of quality golfing ammunition, but you’ll be helping the group continue its valiant work to protect the park for future generations (click here to watch an compelling film commissioned by the Friends, narrated by Sir David Attenbourough).
If you’d like to help, simply enter your maximum bid for the golf balls below. Bidding closes at midnight on 31st January 2019 and the highest bidder will be notified by email. We kindly ask that the winning bidder collects the golf balls from Richmond Park Golf Course. Good luck!
