2018 Customer Survey Update
Last October, we conducted our annual customer survey. As a result and in response to your feedback, we have been working hard over the winter months to make sure we improve our product and customer experience for all of our valued members and customers in 2019. With the new golf season fast approaching we are delighted to be able to update you with some new initiatives and improvements at Portsmouth!
Our promise to you at Portsmouth Golf Course:
We are fully aware that our tee areas suffered a little in 2018 with the prolonged hot summer and the increased amount of golfers that played the golf course. That’s why we have taken the decision to rest as many grass tees as possible at this time of year to encourage recovery prior to the forthcoming golfing season. Whilst the tee areas are not in use they will receive a dressing with seed on a frequent basis. These areas will be brought back into play March / April time.
The health of our greens have improved vastly over the past 2 / 3 years. This has been down to complex and well timed agronomy practices throughout each calendar year. We appreciate how important it is to have high quality putting surfaces and will continue to work hard on presenting these surfaces to the best of our ability. Like previous years we already have a maintenance and fertiliser programme in place ready to deliver as the months pass.
It was noted that on occasions visiting golfers found it difficult to navigate themselves around our parkland set up. With this in mind we will audit the course and look to introduce signage so it’s clear to see where you need to go. This will help make sure more time is spent playing golf rather than looking for the next tee!
Our bunkers will be edged, de-stoned and assessed for sand levels over the coming months. We want to make sure that these hazards are playable and in the best condition they can be in. We also plan to fill in the first bunker on the 11th hole which is currently GUR. When in play this bunker sees very little use.
Our 18th tee area is going to receive a mini overhaul. Our plan here is to remove the artificial tee area and return the tee back to grass. This we feel will provide a much better finishing hole experience and obviously remove a mat that has served us well but now shows sign of heavy use.
Our paths we know are a little bumpy in places. With this in mind we will take delivery of a mini digger towards the end of this month to improve these areas around the course. A particular area of focus will be the path running alongside the putting area. We will look to take delivery of aggregates and edging that we can use to really improve the visual looks and the surface itself.
As with previous years we will receive delivery of new items in preparation for the new golfing season. This will include new items such as flags, pins, bunker rakes and tee markers to name a few. We will also look to add more ball washers and bins to compliment what we already have in situ. These will be put into place ready for April 1st.
We hope you can see from the above that we really want you to have the best possible experience when you visit and your feedback has been invaluable.
Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you have would like to discuss any of the above, or have some further comments or suggestions to how we can make Portsmouth Golf Course even better.
See you on the fairways soon!
