2018 Customer Survey Update
Last October, we conducted our annual customer survey. As a result and in response to your feedback, we have been working hard over the winter months to make sure we improve our product and customer experience for all of our valued members and customers in 2019. With the new golf season fast approaching we are delighted to be able to update you with some new initiatives and improvements at Richmond Park!
Our promise to you at Richmond Park Golf Course:
Golf Course Improvements
I hope you’ll agreed that we’ve made big strides in the overall quality and presentation of our golf courses in 2018. This improvement is down to several years of steady investment into course maintenance operations, plus the development of our greenkeeping team along with increased staffing resources. In 2018 we continued a programme of intensive greens aeration to help relieve soil compaction from the many thousands of golfers that have visited over the years. The result is stronger, more even grass coverage and we’re delighted that it’s made a real difference to the quality of our putting surfaces.
We’ve also modernised and improved the irrigation system that supplies water to the greens and tees, meaning we now have more even coverage and use less water in the process. Good news for the greens and the environment. The upgrade was well-timed as it ensured the greens and tees remained healthy during the long, dry summer we had last year. Our greenkeeping team has just completed an fairway overseeding programme on both courses, which will help the areas affected most by last summer’s dry spell. This will really make a difference to the quality of fairways, especially greens surrounds and will ensure the courses will be in great shape at the start of the season.
In 2018 we invested into several machinery upgrades, including a 360° digger. This has given us a big advantage in allowed us to carry out regular maintenance work, which otherwise would have been difficult to undertake without the cost and inconvenience of hiring in plant. The digger has been put to immediate use and in the last few months you will have noticed that we have started work on reconstructing several bunkers on both the Prince’s and Duke’s courses. This year we’ll be using the upgraded kit to repair and improve many of the pathways around the course, and further bunker work.
Our approach to investing in course maintenance and staff will continue throughout 2019, so you can expect to see our courses improve even further this year.
Driving Range & Golf Academy
We’re really proud to be one of the UK’s most accessible and inclusive golf venues, and we’re looking forward to encouraging even more people to take up golf in 2019. The driving range is often where newcomers get their first taste of golf. We’ve seen a massive increase in the popularity of the range in the last year so we plan to extend the number of bays to help meet demand. This extension will incorporate a brand new indoor coaching facility fitted with ball tracking technology and video swing analysis systems.
Our two new golf coaches Gary Ley and Glenn Ralph joined our academy team in late 2018, so we move into the new year with a team of four (alongside Chris Benians and Stuart Hill). Not only will our academy team be helping experienced golfers to reach their goals, but will be working with local schools and community groups to help grow the game.
This year we will also be opening an improved short game area/chipping green. This facility was formally only available for golf coaching activities, but will now have improved access and be open to all.
It’s hard to believe that it’s been six years since we moved from Roehampton Gate into our new clubhouse, officially opened by HRH Princess Alexandra. While the new facility has provided golfers with a greatly improved catering service, we are planning to enhance it further in 2019. Having listened to customer feedback, we will be creating a more comfortable and attractive environment within the clubhouse, by introducing new furniture and changes to the layout. We also have some exciting plans for the veranda and island dining areas, with a new decked BBQ area and permanent, large parasols.
New for 2019 is an exciting range of pizzas, crafted in conjunction with the well-known Barrel & Stone brand. Our kitchen is now fitted with hi-tech ceramic ovens to produce authentic, stone-baked pizzas. They really are delicious and we think they’ll be a big hit – why not try one next time you’re here – we’d really like your feedback.
Following our annual customer survey, we gained a better understanding of just how important the halfway house catering services are to our golfers. We completed the construction of a new facility in 2018, which is now in a more convenient location – next to the 9th tee Duke’s and 10th green Prince’s. This season we are planning to have the new halfway house open both midweek and weekends, with longer opening hours. We’ll also be launching a new range of food and drink, plus summer BBQs and a bigger range of chilled beers.
We hope you can see from the above that we really want you to have the best possible experience when you visit and your feedback has been invaluable.
Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you have would like to discuss any of the above, or have some further comments or suggestions to how we can make Richmond Park Golf Course even better.
See you on the fairways soon!
