Head Greenkeepers Golf Course Update
Welcome to the latest Tilgate Greenkeepers Report.
It’s been a busy couple of months since my last report so as always, I will start with the Greens.
The greens have had a regular fertilizer program applied, with the majority being liquid feed this year to stop the slow breakdown issues of a granular feed which we suffered last year. They have responded well to the new adjusted program and the plant is in a healthy state. Regular scarifying and deep aeration has kept the thatch layers to a minimum and has also helped with surface water removal when we have encountered downpours.
The replacement of all Greens sprinklers has allowed us to use the watering system more efficiently than ever before and has been a real benefit to the Greens. Hot spots have been hand watered with wetting agent quickly and have not been an issue so far this year. The maintenance program will continue for the rest of the year with the Greens renovations booked in for the week beginning the 2nd September.
The fairways this year have been the most defined that I have known in the almost 5 years I have been here. They have been weed killed along with carries and any areas of rough. We will be spraying any week fairways with a liquid feed throughout the next couple of months to keep them as strong as we can and to keep as much grass coverage as possible heading into winter.
The bunkers have just been strimmed and tidied and the 16th pair re-sanded and back into play. We are continuing with the re-sanding program and will continue until all are complete.
Some general tidying up has been undertaken with the old practice bunker growing nicely, the tee signs are in the process of having a nice cockleshell base to them. The range will have a revamp over the next few weeks, making it even nicer to use the Top Tracer bays and fun zone.
Lastly for this report I would like to welcome Brandon Flanders to the Greenkeeping team. Brandon joins us from another golf Course and is an experienced and qualified Greenkeeper and has already fitted in well and becoming an asset to the course in such a small time.
I look forward to seeing you on the course!
As always feel free to email me your thoughts on the course to john.holcroft@glendalegolf
