Edwalton July Newsletter
Welcome to the July edition of the Edwalton Golf Centre newsletter for 2019.
July has been a varied bag of goodness as far as the weather has been concerned. We’ve had a fair amount of rain, with 93ml of it falling in our catchment area. This mixed with some record breaking temperatures had seen the course come alive! Not only is everything growing rapidly but there has been extra sightings of wildlife. Along with the regular buzzards, a pair of woodpeckers and the occasional kestrel, grass snakes have been seen coming out to bask in the sun! Grass snakes are shy, timid animals and it is a rare treat to see them.
During July we topped up all the bunkers on the main course with fresh sand. Greens maintenance is constantly on the go, verticutting, feeding and aerating at regular intervals to provide the best playing experience possible. We have received numerous compliments on the condition of the course and how well the greens are performing. We thank you for your praise and continued support.

PGA Professional & Golf Services Supervisor update:
July was another inconsistent month weather wise, however we did see a number of very hot days for you all to get out on the course and enjoy your golf!
Our initiative to grow the number of ladies playing at Edwalton continues to make ground. We now have 2 classes a week (Tuesday and Thursday, contact Chris or Danny to book) that have a consistent number of ladies attending, many of whom are now regularly playing the Main Course outside of lessons which is fantastic to see. Our Sip’n’Swing evening, which runs on the first Thursday of the month, has also proved to be very popular. So much so that we have now put in place a booking process for those who want to attend (contact reception on 0115 923 4775 to book).
Following the success of the previous event, we are running another dementia in golf day on Tuesday 12th August. One of the reasons the last day ran as well as it did is down to the support we received from the club, and the seniors section in particular. So if anyone is free and could come down to help us on that day it would be much appreciated.
We are running some ‘Multi sports camps’ over the summer holidays. The main focus will be on golf, however there will be some other activities such as badminton and FootGolf for the children to enjoy as well. These days are aimed at children between the ages of 8 and 12 and will be running from 10am-2pm on 15th, 22nd and 29th August. They are £20 per child and lunch and refreshments are included in the price. Due to limited availability you must book in advance for these days, you can do so by emailing myself at firstname.lastname@example.org or contacting reception on 0115 923 4775.

We continued working hard over the last month to ensure we are delivering you all a high quality product to enjoy. We will be launching a new menu in the clubhouse, which includes a range of paninis and pizzas for you to enjoy before and after your round, as well as getting a new lager (Hophouse 13) on tap behind the bar.
As mentioned in Chris’ section of the newsletter we continue to see the number of ladies playing at Edwalton grow which is fantastic to see as it’s been a big focus for us over the past few months. We have another dementia in golf day coming up in August in partnership with Forget Me Notts who are doing fantastic work in the area for dementia sufferers. They now have partnerships with Edwalton, Notts cricket, Forest, Nottingham rugby and the National ice centre as they continue to provide sports sessions for both those with dementia and their carers.
Alongside our usual bookings of Probus, Breathe Easy and Lung Function, we had 2 birthday parties at the centre throughout July. One of which was Richards 40th, so I hope you can all join me in wishing him many happy returns! We also hosted the annual Breakfast Club BBQ, who have a breakfast buffet every fortnight at the centre and the annual AGM for Probus.
I would like to thank you all for your continued support over the last month and hope to see you on the fairways soon.
