Duxbury Park August Greenkeeper’s Report
What a huge contrast from the last course update!
158mm of rain in 19days with only 5 dry days!
We had managed to keep on top of cutting in and out of the heavy rain showers, giving the course some of the best definition I have seen while in my time here.
Bunkers had been fully edged and weeded, along with checking depths and moving sand where required. Since then it has not stopped raining..
On a positive note the tees and greens have coped well, with some great feedback from members and visitors who have played during the wet conditions.

I am sure you will have noticed the water in the dip at the front of the 17th green! The drain is actually flowing well, it is literally down to the heavy bursts of rain we are getting which is topping it up each time.
Drainage from the green, bunkers and surrounding areas all drain into that area. At the moment the volume of water is simply too great, once the rain eases off it will soon clear.
Humidity has been around 70%, so moisture levels are high. Consequently the grass is growing at an alarming rate. We will reach the point werby we will simply have to start cutting. This will, however, leave a large amount of clippings in the rough and on the fairways. Please bare with us! As always, we will do our utmost to disperse the clippings.
I will be carrying out essential renovations week commencing 9th September. This work is invaluable in maintaining the high quality putting surfaces we have enjoyed this season.
This will consist of:
- Hollow coring
Unfortunately, there will be some disturbance. Your patience is much appreciated while we carry out these works and the subsequent recovery time.
Please do ask any of the greens staff if you have any questions. We are always happy to have a chat about the golf course
See you on the fairways soon.
