Edwalton August Newsletter
Welcome to the August edition of the Edwalton Golf Centre newsletter for 2019.
What can I say about August? August has actually been wetter that July!!! It seems to be a continuing theme this year which is a stark contrast to last year!
Again we have verticut the greens as part of our routine maintenance and never ending struggle against thatch.
This month we sprayed the greens with a wetting agent because despite the extra rainfall there has been some hot sunny spells and this has caused some of the ground to become hydrophobic. This is where a microscopic fungi produces a waxy build up and creates a waterproof barrier. The wetting agent breaks down the fungi and allows the soil to hydrate again.
We have also sprayed the greens with liquid turf hardener, a soluble fertiliser and a fungicide as a preventative for the usual diseases that show their ugly heads when the weather starts to become more humid and the UV levels drop.
We thank you for your patience during these maintenance schedules and hope you have an enjoyable experience on the golf course.

PGA Professional & Golf Services Supervisor update
For the most part we had some pleasant conditions to play golf in during August with the Main Course, Par 3 and Driving Range being utilised well both with members and visitors alike. We did have a couple of VERY hot days which a few of you managed to brave whilst staying hydrated, a good test of fitness!
With it being the Summer Holidays it was particularly nice to see so many young families enjoying the facilities at the golf centre. We’ve since had some wonderful feedback complimenting how accessible and affordable golf is made at the Club as well as how welcoming our members have been to outside visitors, so thank you all.
Our Lady Group lessons keep going from strength-to-strength with both Danny and myself running popular sessions on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. Many of the Ladies are now venturing out on to the Main Course so please do offer encouragement and/or a friendly game as we aim to increase our Lady Membership numbers now that the ground-work has been done.
We have 27 Club Members signed up for our Away Weekend to Windmill Village, Coventry at the weekend. I myself am looking forward to dusting off my clubs and getting a few rounds under my belt, so look forward to sharing with you how the trip went in the next newsletter.
Golf Services Supervisor & PGA Professional
August proved to be a great month for golf with soaring temperatures but also a few days of rain here and there which the course desperately needed!
We launched our new menu which has proved to be popular, especially our range of delicious panini’s. Our new lager, Hophouse 13, has also proved to be a popular choice. It’s great to see more of you enjoying our food and beverage offerings, whether you’re playing golf or just popping down for a coffee and a bite to eat.
Another month, another fantastic dementia in golf session in partnership with Forget Me Notts! This has been one of the most rewarding projects we’ve ever been a part of here at Edwalton and we hope the partnership continues long into the future. I would like to say a big thank you to our seniors who continue to offer their help and support for these sessions, which has been instrumental in the days running smoothly.
The meadow covert came down for their golf day out on August 18th. They had 9 holes on the main course and 9 holes on the par 3 with a BBQ in the middle. It was great to have them back at EGC after a few years absence and we hope to welcome them back sometime in the near future.
We had our usual bookings of Probus, Breathe Easy and Lung Function running throughout August. We also welcomed back Wednesday night Bridge Club who have a break throughout the majority of the summer months so it’s great to have them back.
I would like to thank you all for your continued support over the last month and hope to see you on the fairways soon.
