Course Conditions: Benefiting from Recent Rain!

The golf course is playing exceptionally well, and we’re delighted to report it has truly benefited from the recent rainfall. The course is vibrant, lush, and ready for your next round, offering a fantastic experience for all golfers.

Greens in Top Shape: Precision Maintenance for Smooth Play

Our dedicated greenkeeping team has been hard at work ensuring our greens remain in peak condition. We’ve recently verticut the greens to significantly improve mowing quality and enhance surface smoothness. This precise technique helps remove unwanted organic matter and promotes an upright leaf blade for a cleaner cut.

To further promote those perfectly smooth and true putting surfaces you love, we continue to use our turf roller regularly. This essential practice helps to firm up the greens and create that consistent roll crucial for an enjoyable game.

Upcoming Greens Maintenance: Keeping Them Healthy

Please be aware of planned greens maintenance on July 7th and 8th. During this time, we’ll be performing a light spike on the putting surfaces. This process is vital for the long-term health of our greens as it helps to decompact the soil and encourage essential air into the soil profile. This aeration allows for better water penetration, nutrient absorption, and stronger root growth, ensuring our greens stay resilient and healthy, especially through the summer months. We appreciate your understanding during this brief period of essential work.

Thursday Night Golf: Growing Strong!

Our Thursday Night Golf series continues to go from strength to strength! We’ve been absolutely delighted to see over 30 players in attendance over the past few weeks, creating a vibrant and friendly atmosphere out on the course.

It’s the perfect way to unwind after work, enjoy some casual competition, and meet fellow golf enthusiasts. The best part? There’s no need to be a member to join in the fun! Our new menu is proving very popular! We welcome non-members for breakfast and lunch – no membership needed. Our kitchen is open daily from 9 AM, and we feature a food special every Thursday evening.

We’re thrilled to share some exciting news about our dedicated team! Recognising the hard work and commitment of our staff is incredibly important to us.

Congratulations to Charleigh Wall: Employee of the Quarter

A huge round of applause goes to Charleigh Wall, who has been proudly named our Employee of the Quarter for January to March! This well-deserved recognition highlights Charleigh’s outstanding contributions, dedication, and consistent excellence during the first three months of the year. We’re incredibly proud to have Charleigh as part of our team, and this award is a testament to their hard work and positive impact.

Welcoming Sidney Moss & Bidding Farewell to Kevin

We’re also excited to introduce a new member to our fantastic greenkeeping team: Sidney Moss. Sidney joined us in May and we’re already seeing the positive impact of their skills and enthusiasm on our course. Please give Sidney a warm welcome when you see them around!

Sidney has joined us as a replacement for Kevin, who will be retiring at the end of June. Kevin has been an invaluable part of our team since 2014, and his loyal service and dedication to maintaining our course have been exceptional. We wish Kevin all the very best for a long, happy, and well-deserved retirement and sincerely thank him for his incredible contributions over the past decade. He will be greatly missed!

Community Outreach

Rowans Hospice Golf Event: A Resounding Success!

What an incredible day we had at the annual Rowans Hospice Golf event on May 24th! It was a truly fantastic community gathering, and we’re thrilled to announce that over £5,000 was raised for this vital local charity. Rowans Hospice provides incredible palliative care and support to patients and their families in our community, and we’re so proud to have contributed to their invaluable work.

A huge highlight of the day, and certainly worth celebrating, was longstanding member Roger Wiggins achieving a hole-in-one! What an amazing feat to accomplish during such a special event. A great day was had by all who participated, and a massive well done to Roger for his incredible shot!

Junior Section Flourishing at Portsmouth Golf Course!

We’re absolutely delighted to share the exciting news that our Junior section at Portsmouth Golf Course now exceeds 35 members! This incredible growth is a testament to the hard work and dedication of Keith Milligan, Portsmouth Golf Club’s Junior Organiser.

Keith has done a truly fantastic job in creating this vibrant and thriving section, nurturing young talent and fostering a love for the game. It’s wonderful to see these junior golfers not only learning the sport but also competing on a regular basis. This is precisely what we love to see, and we will certainly continue to encourage and support the development of our junior golfers every step of the way! The future of golf at Portsmouth is looking bright!
