Is membership right for you in 2025?

As we swing into the summer of 2025, golfers everywhere are wondering: what’s the smartest way to enjoy my golf this year?

At Windmill Hill Golf Centre, we understand that every golfer’s needs are unique, which is why we offer a range of membership options beyond the traditional annual contract. So, is a classic yearly membership still the best value, or could the rising popularity of the monthly ‘no contract’ option be your perfect match?

Golf Course Update

Green Renovations

Our greens are in fantastic shape and playing beautifully, earning outstanding feedback from both members and visitors! Over the past quarter, they’ve undergone an intensive maintenance program. This included scarification, a vital process that removes dead moss and excess organic material, and the application of 40 tons of sand. This rigorous work promotes healthier turf, significantly improves drainage, and enhances overall playability. After a brief settling period, the greens have bounced back to excellent condition, providing the true and consistent rolls you’ve come to expect.

Tee Time

We’ve also given our tee boxes some special attention, treating them with fertiliser on two occasions. This supports robust growth and helps us maintain the optimum playing standards you deserve right from the start of each hole. You’ll find them lush and ready for your best drives.

New Features

You might notice a new feature around our greens this June. We’ve started carefully cutting in approaches to create a smooth, seamless transition between the putting surface and the surrounding rough or fairway. The approach is that slightly higher-cut grass area just before the green, expertly blending the fairway into the putting surface. It also connects to the green’s collar, which encircles the green itself. While not quite as short as the putting green, both approach and collar heights are kept low to ensure consistent playability and a fair challenge for your short game.

Finally, you might have noticed that our fairways are playing a little differently. Due to the recent dry weather, they’re firmer than usual, offering increased run and ball bounce. While this makes for a slightly quicker surface, we’re still receiving highly positive feedback from players who are enjoying the extra distance and roll. It’s certainly adding an interesting dynamic to your rounds!

Our Love.golf initiative continues to go from strength to strength, welcoming new faces to the course every week! It’s been an absolute joy to see this program flourish, offering a truly welcoming and engaging introduction to golf for women of all experience levels. The enthusiasm and growth within this community have been nothing short of fantastic. We’re proud to provide a fun, supportive, and social environment where women can learn the game, build confidence, and connect with fellow enthusiasts. Mark your calendars for August because we are incredibly excited to be hosting the London Airlinks Creators Cup, our flagship influencer-led tournament! Celebrating Our Team’s Achievements and New Additions!

We’re proud to announce the promotion of Lauren Scott Russell to our new Operations Manager! Lauren’s journey with us is a true testament to dedication and hard work. She began over two years ago on part time role, and her exceptional commitment, professionalism, and strong work ethic quickly distinguished her. This led to her well-deserved appointment as Duty Manager, and now, this significant promotion. Lauren’s positive attitude and deep understanding of the club’s day-to-day operations, gained across multiple roles, make her an invaluable asset to our team. We’re all so excited to see her continue to thrive and lead in this new chapter.

A special congratulations also goes out to Paula, our Employee of the Quarter! Paula has been recognised for her consistent hard work and unwavering dedication to the club – an achievement that is truly well-deserved. Thank you, Paula, for all you do!

Welcome to New Recruits

Behind the scenes, our kitchen is buzzing thanks to Shoaiba, our new dedicated chef! She has truly made the kitchen her own, especially on our busiest days, and the response to our updated menu has been overwhelmingly positive. Get ready to enjoy some fantastic new dishes!

We’re also delighted to welcome Chris Fenn, our new resident golf coach! Chris brings a wealth of golf knowledge and a friendly, approachable coaching style that’s perfect for players of all levels. Whether you’re looking to fine-tune your swing or just starting out, Chris is on hand to help you improve your game.

Finally, a huge congratulations to Jack Enoch, who successfully completed the Lantra Tree Surveying Course in April! This achievement significantly strengthens our team’s ability to maintain and manage the course to the highest standards, ensuring its beauty and safety for everyone.

It’s brought a wonderfully vibrant and social atmosphere to the club, proving to be a real hit and enhancing everyone’s experience. Complementing this, our revamped menu is drawing fantastic feedback from everyone. Community Outreach

Growing the Game: New Community Partnerships!

We’re incredibly excited to announce new partnerships with Dairy Meadow School and Norwood Green Infant and Junior School, bringing the fantastic sport of golf to more children in our community! We firmly believe that everyone, regardless of their background, should have the opportunity to experience and enjoy golf. Through these collaborations, we’re thrilled to provide local working-class children with access to our driving range and putting green. It’s been wonderful to see their enthusiasm as they take their first swings and putts, and we’re committed to nurturing their interest in the game. These partnerships are just one way we’re working to make golf more inclusive and accessible for all.

Supporting Across: A Day of Successful Fundraising

We were also honoured to recently support a wonderful local charity called Across. This incredible organisation provides vital transport and support, enabling individuals with special needs to go on pilgrimages to Lourdes. We were delighted to help put on a dedicated fundraising day for their volunteers, and we’re thrilled to report it was a resounding success! It was inspiring to see our community come together to support such a meaningful cause, and we’re proud to have played a part in helping Across continue their invaluable work.
