Tilgate Golf Course Update - February

Welcome to the first greenkeeping report of the year. It's been a busy winter time for us as I'm sure you have noticed.

First as always are the greens. The new deep aerator has been out three times over the past couple of months and the benefits are second to none. The cold weather has helped keep the disease at bay and allowed us to stay on main greens all winter. We aim to do another pass this month with the deep aerator and a little trim to keep them tidy. A feed will be due at the beginning of March to give them a little boost at the start of the season and hopefully, warmer weather.

The tees have been in play all winter and are showing signs of wear at the front. This will be repaired shortly and all tees will be top dressed, seeded and tined helping us establish more grass coverage for the season.

Tree work has been our main project this winter with the second phase of thinning completed by our main contractors. We have been busy clearing, chipping and pruning many areas around the course. Two great examples are the 5th and the 8th holes. This work is ongoing for as long as possible during the winter months and has improved the playability of the course no end.

The bunkers development is underway with the 6th greenside currently being dug out, reshaped and resanded. The bunker to the right of the 2nd green and the bunker to the left of the 5th green are also under way. My team will also be renovating bunkers on 13th fairway, the 7th green and the 3rd green.

We will also be repairing the main paths around the course and shingling the paths to the tees.

Lastly I want to welcome our new apprentice Callum Chisnal to our team. He's already settled in well and has been busy getting stuck in.
