As we swing into the summer of 2025, golfers everywhere are wondering: what’s the smartest way to enjoy my golf this year?

At Richmond Park Golf Course, we understand that every golfer’s needs are unique, which is why we offer a range of membership options beyond the traditional annual contract. So, is a classic yearly membership still the best value, or could the rising popularity of the monthly ‘no contract’ option be your perfect match?

Golf Course Update

Season Update: Summer Ready & Course Improvements!

It’s been a cracking start to the season with some great weather for early golf as we head into summer! While the conditions have helped the team in some ways, they’ve also thrown us a few curveballs.

Fairway Challenges & Future Plans

Our biggest hurdle has been the fairways. We went from being super soft to rock hard, which meant no spring recovery from winter. Overseeding wasn’t an option either – the ground was just too dry, and seeding would have actually made things worse by opening up channels. But don’t worry, we’ve got overseeding planned for the end of the season when we can guarantee good growth.

Greens Looking Good!

Last winter’s sandbanding project really helped our greens as we transitioned into spring and summer. We’re now planning the next stage of secondary drainage to cut down on temporary greens during winter. This sandbanding has also done wonders for reducing organic matter, and this year’s external audit even praised the improved structure of our greens – awesome news! We’ll keep up the top dressing throughout the year to keep them in tip-top shape.

Irrigation Upgrades Underway

We’ve started work on approach irrigation, bringing in new heads and components. This is a big project covering all 36 holes, so it’ll take a couple of seasons to get fully up and running. Good news though, 15 holes are already back in action! We also upgraded our irrigation controls and electrics this year to prevent the outages we had last year. Our new custom-built panel even allows for remote watering, helping our green staff fine-tune things when needed.

New Machinery Making a Difference

The new machinery we got last year is already paying off big time! We’re seeing a much better and more consistent cut across the course, which is brilliant. Plus, the extra semi-mower has really helped transform some areas.

Exploring Automated Mowing

We’ve been looking into automated mowing systems for a while now as the tech keeps getting better. We recently had a successful demo with one company and are exploring if these systems can boost quality and reliability even further. We’ll keep you posted as things develop!

Hosting the NAPGC Regional Qualifier this June!

We’re incredibly excited to announce that we’ll be hosting the prestigious NAPGC Regional Qualifier right here at Richmond Park Golf Course on Friday, June 28th. This annual event brings together talented golfers from public courses across the region to compete for a spot in the national finals.

It’s a fantastic opportunity to see some great golf, and we’re proud that the Richmond Park Golf Club (our resident affiliated golf club) is always a strong supporter of this important fixture in the amateur golf calendar. We’re looking forward to welcoming all the competitors and spectators for what promises to be an excellent day of competition. Come down and cheer them on!

Catch Every Roar: The Lions Rugby Series is Live Here!

Get ready, rugby fans! We’re thrilled to announce that we’ll be showing the upcoming Lions Rugby Series live in the Clubhouse on Sky TV. Don’t miss a single tackle, try, or conversion as the Lions take on their formidable opponents.

And to make sure you’re fueled up for all the action, we’ve got a roaring deal for you! Enjoy our special Lions Coffee & Bacon Roll Deal available during all matches. It’s the perfect way to kick off your game-day experience.

New Menu: A Success!

Our new menu, launched at the start of the year, has been an absolute hit with both members and guests! We’re thrilled by the overwhelmingly positive feedback and how much everyone is enjoying the fresh new options.

A couple of standouts that have proved particularly popular are our delicious new wraps and our expanded breakfast options. It’s great to see so many of you starting your day with us or grabbing a quick, tasty bite! We’re committed to keeping things fresh and exciting, so thank you for embracing the changes.

Get Ready for Summer BBQs on the Patio!

As the weather warms up, get ready for everyone’s favourite summer tradition here: our BBQs on the patio! We’ll be firing up the grill regularly throughout the season, serving our ever-popular burgers sizzling hot.

There’s nothing quite like enjoying a juicy burger fresh off the grill while soaking up the sun and enjoying the views from our patio. Keep an eye out for dates and times – you won’t want to miss these! They’re the perfect way to relax and refuel after a round of golf or just to enjoy a casual meal with friends and family.

Welcoming Back Our Summer Team!

We’re thrilled to announce that our summer casual works program is officially back in full swing! It’s always a highlight of the year to welcome both familiar and new faces to our team here in Chorley.

We’re delighted to see some of our “old faces” returning year after year. Their experience and dedication are invaluable, and it truly speaks to the positive environment we foster. And of course, a huge welcome to all our new recruits! We’re excited to have fresh talent join us and contribute their energy to making this an excellent summer.

Their hard work helps us keep everything running smoothly and ensures everyone enjoys their time with us, especially as we head into the busiest part of the year. Please join us in giving them a warm welcome!

This June, we’re proud to host a series of charity-supported events aimed at raising crucial funds for two incredibly important causes: Prostate Cancer UK and Royal Marsden Cancer Charity. Both organisations are at the forefront of cancer research, treatment, and patient support, making a tangible difference in countless lives. Your participation helps drive their vital work forward.

The 72-Hole Challenge at Richmond: A True Test of Endurance!

One of the highlight events this month is the demanding 72-Hole Challenge. This isn’t just any round of golf; it’s an incredible test of endurance, skill, and passion, all played right here at Richmond. With the course being busy throughout the week, navigating 72 holes presents a significant undertaking.
