This par-5 opening hole, measuring over 500 yards, sets the stage for what’s to come. You’ll feel the influence of legendary three-time Open Champion, Sir Henry Cotton, whose design leaves a clear mark from your very first swing.
A reachable Par 5 for longer hitters, but risk-reward is at play. The further you go around the dogleg left, the easier your approach, but trees will gobble up an ambitious hook.
Aim for the centre-right of the fairway, as approaches from the left can find the gradient and make it difficult to hold the green, especially in drier conditions.
A good length Par 4 with a generous tee shot landing area.
The approach shot is tighter with trouble long, left, and right, plus a wicked downslope at the front. In summer, landing your approach short of the green and letting it release is often the best strategy.
A classic closing hole for the front nine. Longer hitters can go for it in two, but a sensible lay-up will leave a short iron or wedge into a well-bunkered green.
Everything feeds from left to right as it approaches the green, so aim at the silver birch tree just left of the green to use the slope to your advantage.
A reachable Par 5 for many, but strategic play is rewarded.
You can either land your approach short of the green and let it roll down the hill or land it in the middle of the green where it should stop quickly against an upslope.
A challenging finishing Par 5. The line off the tee, whether you lay up or go for it in two, is along the path just right of the centre of the fairway.
Be aware of the out of bounds on the left. A solid finish can salvage your round!
