Castle Point Golf Course – Fresh From The Fairways – January 2023
General Manager Update
The start of the New Year has probably not been what we had wanted. It appears to have rained a lot, and the rapid drop in temperatures caused a frozen tundra out on the golf course, and subsequently, we have found ourselves in a position where we have not been able to keep the golf course open in its entirety. Having had to rely on nine holes for long parts, we were able to get 14 holes open and then finally, this past weekend, get back to a full 18 holes. We appreciate your patience throughout this challenging period, and we hope now, moving into February, we can start to sow the seeds to get the course into the right condition for the upcoming golf season.
Who needed to join a gym in January when you could carry your golf bag around the course?
Greenkeeper Update
So after coming out of 2022, we had every extreme weather chucked at us, extreme heat during summer to snow, ice, and persistent rain has really taken its toll on the course, but now coming out of January, we are looking forward to and excited about the new year ahead.
Through the rest of this winter going into spring, we will be looking to get some air into the greens by punching some holes. This will help with the photosynthesis of the plant and also help drainage and relieve some compaction.
I’m really excited about my first full summer back at castle point and aim to get the course back to a golf course everyone can enjoy playing.
Golf Lessons And Kids Camps
Golfing lessons and kids camps are excellent ways to introduce children to the game of golf. Not only do they provide a fun and engaging environment for children to learn in, but they also offer a great opportunity for parents to get involved in their child’s development. Golfing lessons and kids camps can teach children the fundamentals of the game, such as proper grip, stance, swing form, and ball-striking techniques.
Throughout January, we have been offering our FREE Junior Golf Lessons, which have gone down great, and we hope to have new junior golfers continuing with our weekly lessons. We plan to continue with these kids’ camps throughout the year and hope to see more and more beginners and all levels joining up and getting into the game of golf.
