Course Update | Portsmouth Golf Course
Welcome to a somewhat different newsletter from us here at Portsmouth Golf Course. We hope you and your loved ones are keeping safe during this current pandemic, we appreciate it’s been a huge challenge to us all. As we are currently under lock down measures we thought we would take the opportunity to update you on what we have been doing at the course whilst it’s been closed to our valued members and visitors.

Since the closure we have retained staff on a reduced basis. These staff include our greenkeeping team led by Matt Burr who will be completing essential daily maintenance enabling us to have a golf course in excellent condition for when we eventually return. After one of the wettest winters on record it’s typical that the golfing weather eventually arrived as lock down measures were introduced !
Since closure the team has been busy mowing rough, tees, fairways and greens which now start to grow as the dryer and milder weather conditions prevail. All greens have received a granular feed which will encourage turf recovery and a healthier leaf as we approach the warmer months. We also plan to spike and verti cut all greens which we have currently put on hold but plan to undertake later this month or early May. Our irrigation system has been primed and is now live ensuring our greens receive sufficient water and are kept hydrated. Matt has also managed to get our 2nd tee back onto an irrigation programme which is great news. This means that over the past 3 / 4 years tee irrigation has gone from non existent to the whole course now back on.
The basic essential maintenance of the course and the welfare of our staff remains our utmost priority whilst operating in these lock down conditions. All staff have the full support of the company and are provided with adequate PPE along with suitable control measures so we operate in a safe environment. Throughout the lock down we will continue to keep you updated with very brief course reports so you can be kept abreast of the work we are doing. Rest assured we will be working hard behind the scenes to ensure we are ready to go when we eventually get the green light to reopen.
